Bookstart is a national programme that encourages parents to share and enjoy books with their children from as early an age as possible. Their aim is for “every child in the UK to develop a lifelong love of books.” Research has shown that sharing books with babies and toddlers is a wonderful way to increase language skills and help them understand the world around them and it is also important for their future education as the Bookstart website claims, “Babies and toddlers who love books begin reading sooner and have a better start at school.” Bookstart currently provides 3 packs for children up to the age of 4. Every pack contains books for the child and guidance on book selection and reading for parents.
