Easter card ideas Print E-mail

Home made cards are fun to do, are a good writing and reading activity and make great keepsakes for family and friends . The following Easter card ideas should provide some inspiration.

 Card chicks

Place some card on the table and draw a very light pencil outline of a chick. Get a selection of yellow feathers and let your child stick them onto the chick's body (taking care to leave space for the eyes and mouth). Once the feathers are all stuck on, they can use orange card or felt to make the beak and black card/felt for the eyes.

 Foil eggs

Draw an egg shape onto some thick corrugated card and cut it out. Now cover it with silver foil and use glue (MDF or craft glue) to stick it onto your card. Now that the basic work has been done you can let your child loose with sequins, stickers and ribbons to give it a unique finish all of their own.

A photo card

If your child is more into photos than crafts, why not take them out for the day and see if you can take some Easter inspired photographs? Rabbits and ducks at the local petting farm, colourful eggs on a shop shelf or younger siblings in Easter or fancy dress are all great subject ideas and can make for a really interesting image. Get them printed off and let them mount their favourites onto card. You could also use them in an Easter memory book.

Decorative eggs

Cut out some card eggs and let your child decorate them with rhinestones, buttons, ribbon and sequins. Once they are happy with the results, you can mount them onto card and let them finish it off by decorating any plain areas. If your budget can't stretch to lots of different craft accessories, simply go for paint or pencils - it's equally as effective and your child will enjoy it just as much.

 Fluffy chick

Get some yellow paint (spray paint works best but you can use poster colours too) and colour some big balls of fluffy cotton wool. Once it's dried, help your child mount it onto some card to make a big chunky chick. You can use black felt for his legs and head or simple draw it on with black pen, paint or crayons.

Shell collage cards

Boil a couple of eggs, pick off the shell and smash it into various sized pieces. Let your child decide on which design they'd like (eggs are the obvious choice but this works just as well with bunny, chick and writing designs) and use pencil to lightly draw a template onto the card. Now get some MDF glue and let them stick the shell onto the card until the template is completely filled. You can use paints to decorate and if you have enough shell left, use it to write Happy Easter across the top.

 Pasta “Happy Easter” card

Write 'Happy Easter' in chunky letters across the front of some card and let your child stick on pasta shapes inside the letters. You can make it a little more colourful by using spray paints beforehand or mix things up a bit by using different shaped pasta and other decorative items like sequins, felt and ribbon.

Happy Easter card

Fold some card and cut out it into the oval shape of an Easter egg. With the opening of the card to the right, you child can now start decorating it with scrunched up tissue paper, sequins and foil. Tissue flowers, tied ribbons and painted designs are all equally as nice and will give the card a lovely colourful finish.

Have fun!
